Aliona Hlivco

Aliona is a political analyst and foreign policy expert with a background in domestic and international strategic communications, government and international relations. She started her career in Ukrainian politics, holding several government positions in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Parliament in Ukraine, focusing on international aid partnerships, cross-border cooperation and decentralisation.

She also served as an elected member of regional parliament in 2015-2018. As a campaign manager, she ran eight national and local election campaigns, and coordinated strategy during the 2013-2014 social uprising in the country. Aliona finished her time in Ukrainian politics as a regional branch manager to the country’s largest political party, and adviser to the leader, former Ukrainian PM Yulia Tymoshenko.

Aliona is Managing Director at the Henry Jackson Society. She appears regularly on BBC, The Telegraph, Al Jazeera, Deutsche Welle, Monocle, CapX and panels of various think tanks and academic institutions to provide her expertise on Ukraine. She is fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian with an intermediate level in German.
