Renewed Commitment: Rebuilding Britain’s Role in International Development

The Coalition for Global Prosperity latest launch, coming after the recent general election, examines the vital role Britain will play across the world in promoting good health, empowering women and girls, and ending malnutrition. The collection was shared with MPs at an intimate reception with Bill Gates, Sir Ibrahim and Heela Yoon.

British leadership in development is not just about our values, and doing what is right, it is also about making the world a better place for all of us. Irregular migration to Europe cannot be understood without acknowledging the role of poverty, conflict, and climate change – preventable crises which force so many to flee in pursuit of a better life.

The report features contributions from experts across sport, science, business, the military and international institutions, including:

  • Winnie Byanyima; Executive Director of UNAIDS, and Under-Secretary-General of the UN

  • Professor Sarah Gilbert DBE FRS; Professor of Vaccinology in the Pandemic Sciences Institute at Oxford University.

  • Sir Mo Ibrahim; Founder and Chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation

  • Heela Yoon; Founder of Afghan Youth Ambassadors for Peace, and UN SDG Young Leader

  • Major General (Retd) James Cowan CBE DSO

  • Jo Konta; Former Britain No 1 Tennis Player

  • Levi Roots; Entrepreneur and Musician

Britain is at its best when it acts as a global leader in development as well as in defence and diplomacy. With a smart and effective aid budget, which leverages British expertise, the UK can transform lives.

Previous generations of leaders have helped those around the world in need. I know this new Parliament will too.
