As the global refugee crisis continues and desperate people make increasingly dangerous journeys in search of safety, the Prime Minister has promised to “stop the boats”. At the same time, the UK has reduced its’ aid to countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, while using the aid budget to support refugees in the UK.

This debate will examine how UK aid can help respond to global displacement, and whether there is a role for UK aid in reducing Channel crossings.
