Parliamentary Visit to Lebanon

April 2022

Over the Easter Parliamentary Recess, the Coalition for Global Prosperity took three cross-party Members of Parliament to Lebanon on our first overseas visit.

The delegation set out with the aim of looking at the impact that UK Aid can have - specifically on de-mining and supporting refugees. On the visit were Jo Gideon MP (CON), Bambos Charalambous MP (LAB) and Fleur Anderson MP (LAB) as well as members of the team from CGP and UK-based NGOs - Mines Advisory Group and Save the Children.

Throughout the four-day visit, the delegation met with locally employed mine clearance workers, diplomatic officials and a number of charities and NGOs who are currently operating in the area. The visit went from the Blue Line on the Southern border, to Beirut and the site of the 2020 Beirut explosion to speak to businesses owners who had been affected by the blast and to find out how UK-based organisations had been supporting them.
